Students that attend Plavan on an Inter-District Transfer (reside in an area outside of Fountain Valley School District) it is time to renew your transfer. Transfers must be renewed each year. Some school district's start as early as January 9th. Please check with your home district on their timeline and apply as soon as possible, but no later than April 30, 2023. Those renewals received after that day may be waitlisted. Thank you!

Plavan Elementary: A 2023 California Distinguished School!!!

I am thrilled to announce that Plavan Elementary School has been recognized as a California Distinguished School for 2023!

The California Distinguished Schools program recognizes schools for their outstanding work around two categories: 1) Exceptional student performance and 2) Closing the achievement gap.

Of the eligible schools, the ones that are recognized have exhibited excellent performance on all state indicators as specified on the California School Dashboard. The indicators include exceptional state assessment results, chronic absenteeism, suspension rates, and socioeconomic and subgroup data that show progress in reducing the achievement gap.

Plavan Elementary was one of 38 Orange County schools honored this year. This tremendous recognition is the result of hard work, dedication, and collaborative diligence shown by our staff, school leaders, and our families to educate the “whole” child on our campus.

Congratulations to our staff, students, and families for achieving this prestigious honor!

Hello Plavan Families! Our weekly newsletter will be posted here each week.

If your child's class will be going on a field trip, you will be notified directly by your child's teacher. We've included a field trip permission slip (generic blank) attached to this message in case you've misplaced the permission slip that was sent home with your child. Not all grades will have a field trip away from school. Some grades may have field trip-like programs held on campus where no travel is required.

If you are a parent, guardian or extended family member and wish to volunteer as a field trip chaperone, the State of California requires all field trip chaperones to be cleared at a Level 2. Please see the attachment that lists the requirements to be a Level 1 or Level 2 cleared volunteer. Level 2 LiveScan Background check forms can be picked up in the office or sent home with your child. Please contact the office to request the form. Keep in mind the Livescan fingerprinting and Department of Justice process can take two weeks or more to complete. Once the Livescan process is complete, it is valid for the entire time your child is enrolled in Fountain Valley School District. Livescans for other entities do not count, as they are confidential and go directly to our HR department once approved.

Sometimes events are held where family members are not required to have clearance, such as promotion activities, plays and other faculty supervised events where the family members present are not working directly with or supervising students, and rather attending a performance event.

If you are unsure, please contact the school office to determine whether volunteer clearance is needed for the specific activity or event being held.

Learn about the Twilight Education Project, where families can learn the language and life skills that they need to succeed. A program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley, the Twilight Education Project removes the typical barriers to services: it's FREE, takes place after work hours, and provides transportation and child care. Last year, over 425 children and adults learned side by side in the program's supportive atmosphere.

Fountain Valley School District (FVSD) utilizes an electronic flyer (e-flyer) distribution system, Peachjar, in an effort to improve communication, ensure a strong link between home and school, and to enhance community support and involvement in the schools. Every school, the district, and outside organizations will use Peachjar to distribute district-approved e-flyers to families districtwide. These e-flyers reduce staff time, save money, utilize technology, and are more environmentally conscious. In addition, these e-flyers are available for reference on each school’s website even after the email has been deleted.
