PTO Events & Committees
Come join us at the school’s biggest fundraiser of the year! The event will be on November 30, 2017. We need volunteers to help with organize and plan the event, set up, cleanup, be a lap counter, and more!
Popcorn Friday //
Every first Friday of the month, we sell popcorn to students and parents. We reward our “Proud Panthers of the month” with free popcorn as an incentive. We need volunteers to help with popcorn stand from 1:15-3:15. We need volunteers to set up popcorn machine, make and sell popcorn and clean popcorn machine after use.
Movie Night //
PTO will host three free movie night on Fridays, October 13, 2017, January 19, 2018 and April 27, 2018 . We need volunteers to help sell food and cleanup at the end of the night. Dinner normally starts at 5:30 p.m. with the movie starting at 6:30 p.m.
Family Bowling Night // Pins for Plavan
Come get to know one another! Family bowling night will be held on February 3, 2018. Families will get the chance to participate in unlimited bowling that night. We will also be having a silent auction and raffle to raise funds for our school. We need volunteers to help plan the event, obtain donations, run the silent auction, set up and clean up for the event.
Spring Festival //
Instead of our Harvest Festival or Spring Festival, we are hosting the Country Fair Carnival on Sunday, June 3, 2018. We plan to have lots of game and activities for families and friends to participate in. We would love to make this a memorable event! In order to do so, we need a lot of volunteers to make this event successful. Volunteer responsibilities include booth coordination, decorations, ticketing, running games & activities.
Kids Run the OC Marathon //
We are participating in the Kid’s Run the OC marathon this year. The event is held on May 5, 2018. The program is a 10-week fitness program that starts in February and ends on the day of the event. We will need volunteers to act as coaches to help us run the 10-week training session (1 hour a week ), We also need volunteers to help with working the event on the day of event.
Trunk or Treat //
We will be organizing a Trunk or Treat event for the kids on the evening of Friday, October 27, 2017. Come and join the fun! Decorate your trunks and pass out goodies to all the trick or treaters! This will be a free PTO hosted event open to all families of Plavan Elementary and we need your help to make this event fun for the kids! Volunteers are needed to decorate their trunks for the event. Outdoor Education Committee will also be selling refreshments to raise funds for Outdoor Science School (Camp) for 5th Grade.

Angel Bins //
We are doing a shoe collection drive to help raise money for the school. We will need a couple of volunteers to help sort, bag, and load the shoes into the donation truck. This will be done in January 2018, please check back for specifics.
Taste of Plavan //
This year, we are planning a “nontraditional” dine out day on date to be determined. We would like to celebrate the culinary diversity of our Plavan families. We will be inviting families to donate “cultural food” that will be shared with other families at the our dine out fundraiser. Volunteers are needed to set up, distribute food and promote the event.
Book Fair students and parents have the opportunity to browse and purchase books during our Scholastic Book Fair, held in the Media Room. “Teacher’s Wish Lists” are available for anyone interested in purchasing a book as a gift for their child’s teacher. Book fairs are held twice a year – in September and May. Volunteers are needed to help set-up, cleanup and run the book fair. Spring Book Fair 5/21 to 5/25/2018.
Our Plavan Yearbook serves as a time capsule, recording the school year’s events through the eyes of the students and teachers. Our Yearbook Committee is our school historian and is responsible for taking photos of school and PTA events. Volunteers for this committee are to handle layout, production, printing and distribution of our book. Order forms will go home in late December/early January. Please be sure to send in your order form early and make a note of when you ordered your yearbook. This will save you money and time. Yearbooks are delivered to student classrooms for those that have pre-purchased them, when they arrive in late June before school is out. Scrips Team // To be determined.
We are bringing back our Scrips program. Scrips is a program where we sell gift cards to parents and families at their face value and then get a percentage return on each purchase. Scrips sales will happen the first week of each month. The program needs a team of 8-10 people to help process, record, and distribute the orders. Those who are interested on being on this team will need to able to commit their time (1-2 hours each time) once a month.
Room Parent Representative //
This position is a great way to get involved directly with your child’s classroom! It is a lot of fun and is a great way to support our teachers. As a room representative, you will serve as a liaison between your classroom’s teacher, parents and other PTO representatives. You will also assist teachers on planning class parties as desired by teacher.
